Chi running is considered to be both a philosophy of running and a technique of running. It is gaining popularity within the running and fitness communities. It was originally developed by an ultramarthon runner, Danny Dreyer. The New Balance Running Shoe Company have considered the popularity of it to be such that they developed a Chi running shoe.

As a techniqueor method of running, Chi running uses more of a midfoot strike rather then the traditional rearfoot method. This is thought to place less stress and strain on the knee and be a much more efficient way of running compared to the traditional heel strike pattern used by most runners. This is supposed to allow the runner to more float over the road rather than fight aganist the road.

As more of a philosophy, Chi running attempts to combine with the sf the principles that underpin Tai Chi and Pilates. The runner should try to be at one with the road and have a more spiritual and uplifting experience. Chi runners can unfortunatly become somewhat fanatical about the experience and benefits of chi running.
